Foad Silky Hare Oil review

I was really quite excited when I heard that the fine chap behind Foad Wax was making a hair oil. I’ve used oils in my facial hair on and off for a while, with mixed results, but judging by the quality of Foad’s moustache wax I had very high hopes.

As an eczema sufferer, one of the main problems I have with my facial hair is keeping the skin underneath moisturised. Keeping your locks in good condition is also very important for a modern gent, I personally have always struggled due to hating the way conditioner makes my hair feel. Even with the aid of conditioner I often find my hair drying out when I blow dry it (which for me is an essential part of being able to see!). To be honest I’d really never considered using oil in my hair, I always assumed it would leave it looking lank and greasy, but even so I thought I’d give it a fair try.

foad oil

First things first, as I’m sure you’ve noticed from the picture, the oil comes in a small glass bottle with a snazzy logo on the front. The instructions on the bottle advise you to use a few drops for either your hair or beard, and that is definitely more than enough. After a little experimenting with quantities I am now using literally 2 drops in my hair and one on my (admittedly small) beard, meaning this little bottle will last AGES. The oil is very easy to distribute through your hair with the use of a comb and your fingers and has a pleasant, almost earthy scent. The label instructs you to leave it for as long as possible before patting off the excess, but I’ve found no need for that as long as you use it sparingly. I then zap my noggin with the hair dryer and style my hair and moustache as usual.

After 10 days of using the oil I’ve seen a distinct improvement in the quality of my hair. Blow drying it no longer dries it out, and it has a healthy (but not at all greasy) shine. In fact I have found that my hair is in such good condition that I no longer need to use styling products to keep it in place. My facial hair is much more manageable, meaning I don’t need as much wax for my moustache. My beard now looks considerably neater and less hobo-y, and it also seems to have completely solved the issue of dry skin under my beard. As I stated earlier, I have always hated the way conditioner makes my hair feel, and this magical stuff completely does away with the need to use it, saving you both time and money!

Honestly I think this is the kind of product all men should use. It’s natural, masculine, and most importantly, it WORKS. Why use Foad’s Silky Hare Oil? Because you’re bloody well worth it chaps!

If you’d like to try some for yourself, you can buy it online here, at £6.99 a bottle it’s an absolute steal!

Toad Satin Wax by Foad

Many waxes have passed through these hairs in the months I have been moustachioed. Some good, some great, some terrible. None that I have tried have come close to rivalling the versatility of Foad Wax.

I have recently purchased a tin of the brand new Toad Satin Wax, also a creation of Mr Foad. A soft to medium wax made from jojoba as opposed to the usual beeswax, the Toad wax can be used either by itself or in conjunction with the regular Foad wax.

For all you dapper hippies out there, you will be pleased to know that Toad wax is an entirely vegan product, so no need to worry about those poor bees being robbed of their waxy wares. As a result of this, Toad wax has a very distinctive, sweet scent, which the ladies love, although it soon dissipates.

The wax heats up very easily, with no need for a hair drier to soften it up. I would describe the hold as medium strength, enough to hold your hairs in place and keep the curls in, but if you’re going to be exposing your stache to the elements, you’d be best off using a little Foad wax on the tricky bits.

I have gotten into the habit of using a layer of Foad wax as usual, and then adding some Toad wax to help distribute it throughout my stache, and give it a nice looking sheen. For the first time ever I have been able to go all day without needing to touch it up, just a bit of prod-pokery after eating and it all stays put. I also no longer have to use a hair drier to help comb the wax through, which saves me a few precious minutes in my morning routine.

The real benefit here is that you have a unique styling system that allows you to create a custom hold by mixing the 2 waxes together in different ratios. As a result you have a wax that can literally suit anyone.

I love trying out new waxes and experimenting with different stache styling methods, but I still will not leave the house without a trusty tin of Foad Wax in my pocket.

Moustache log – the finale!

So here we are, the last ever moustache log! It pains me to have to stop these posts, but my ‘stache is about as long as it’s going to get, and to continue with this feature would just be showing off!

I started this little experiment purely to see if somebody like myself, who is far from gifted in the chin bristle department, could grow a respectable lip tickler. I think you’ll agree the experiment was a success.

Having a moustache has had a surprising effect on my life. Strangers want to shake my hand, kids high five me as I walk down the street, and women find me irresistible.

Ok, I made that last one up, but still, I love my little handlebar. Remember chaps, if I can do it so can you. So ditch the razors and join my club!

Also, if any of you have a particularly impressive facial fuzz, send it in and we’ll post your face on the blog!

So without further ado, for the final time, here is my face. Styled, as always, with Foad Wax.

Moustache log – week 12

Over the last few weeks I’ve come to the conclusion that moustaches are like Marmite. The reactions I get seems to be about 50% “What the HELL is that on your face!” and 50% “Oh my god that is the coolest thing ever!”. If you’re reading this blog I think it’s safe to say which category you fall into. I wonder if it would be worth doing some research to see if there’s a correlation between liking Marmite and moustaches? I personally love both. But not together.

Anyway, this is what my face looks like this week. Sculpted using Foad Wax.

Moustache log – week 10

This is my first time using the wordpress app to write a post, so bear with me if this doesn’t work!

I didn’t really feel that my ‘stache had changed much in the last 2 weeks, but looking at the last update, it’s actually grown a fair bit. I’ve managed to shape it a little more to keep it looking neat, and the “handlebars” are longer and more pronounced.

It just needs a while longer for all the hairs to grow to the same length so I can even it out, other than that I’m rather pleased with how it’s turned out.

If anyone reading this thinks my face is looking snazzy, you too could rock this look! Remember, next month is Movember, so time to put away the razors chaps!
