Girls that could smash your face in – Cris “Cyborg” Santos

Like yesterdays post, today I am writing the first in what will be a series of posts, this time profiling some of the toughest ladies in the world. I figured it made sense to start at the top, so ladies and gentlefolk, I introduce to you the Strikeforce women’s middleweight champion, Cris “Cyborg” Santos.

Brazilian superstar Cris “Cyborg” Santos is a product of the world famous Chute Boxe academy in Brazil, which has produced champions such as Wanderlei “The Axe Murderer” Silva, Mauricio “Shogun” Rua, and the pound for pound greatest fighter on the planet, Anderson “The Spider” Silva. Other than her MMA debut (which amazingly was after only 4 months of training), Cris has not only beaten, but totally dominated everyone that has been put in front of her. Nicknamed after her husband, fearsome MMA striker Evangelista “Cyborg” Santos, Cris shares her husbands aggression and love of a good slugfest, but what really sets her apart from the rest of the division is her pure athleticism. As shown below Cris sports an impressive physique, and as a result is almost always stronger and faster than her opponent.

In fact she has been so dominant that sports writers have pondered how she would hold up in the mens Featherweight division, with many comparing her destructive striking style to that of current UFC featherweight champ, Jose Aldo. This fact alone pretty much makes her the scariest fighter ever to don a vagina.

I will leave you with this hilarious video of Cris being interviewed by MMA Worldwide in the lead up to her 2009 fight against Gina Carano. Due to what I think was a translation mistake, Cris ends up choking the interviewer unconscious! Enjoy.

Tattoos and MMA – Dan Hardy

This is the first post in what will hopefully be a series, detailing the good and bad tattoos sported by some of the top MMA fighters in the world. I thought it would be good to start off with one of the fighters with some of the best work out there, Englands own Dan Hardy.

Dan Hardy has fallen on hard times recently, having lost 4 in a row since working his way up to a title shot against the UFC’s welterweight king, Georges St Pierre.  However I think the fans and critics are being far too tough on Dan. He is an extremely entertaining fighter and has a style that demands attention. In the fast paced world of mixed martial arts people are far too quick to write off a fighter following a few losses, but I think we have yet to see the best of Dan Hardy. I’ve been following Dan’s career for a long time, and as long as he keeps fighting, I’ll keep watching and cheering him on from the stands (or more often my living room).

I spent about 2 hours this morning researching online, trying to find good quality pictures of Dan’s tattoos and information on the artists that made them. I was starting to lose all hope when I stumbled across these great videos by MMAWeekly. In a sport filled with shaved heads and (usually) terrible tribal tattoos, it’s refreshing to see someone like Dan who actually knows what makes a good tattoo, and is willing to seek out the right artists to get them done. I’ve also put some links below the videos to the websites for all of the artists Dan mentions in the videos, and here is Dan’s own website.

Great article on Martial Arts in the 1900′s via Bloody Elbow

I have been battling against a rather temporamental Internet connection these last few days, so I apologise for the lack of recent posts.

Rather than try to spend my entire evening trying to type a lengthy post on my phone, I shall redirect you to an outstanding article from the MMA website Bloody Elbow (highly reccommended MMA site).

It’s a really interesting read and details developments in martial arts and self defence at the turn of the century. It even includes an explanation of the combat style of the one and only Sherlock Holmes.

Moustache log – Week 1

Have you ever wondered if you have what it takes to grow a moustache? Like many of you I have often fantasised about how awesome it would be if I had a mighty facial bush warming my upper lip. The time has come my friends to make this fantasy a reality!

Over the coming weeks I will be posting my progress here, so that all of you that crave a moustache but fear looking like a mook can see how mine pans out, and decide if it’s worth the embarassment of the “growing phase”.

I haven’t exactly got the thickest facial hair, so I’m not quite sure whether or not this will work, but the potential reward more than compensates for the risk. As you can see I already have a little beardy thing, which should help distract from the (hopefully) temporarily feeble facial foliage.

So without further ado, here is my face.

Well hello there gentlefolk of the internet.

Welcome to our little blog, hope you all stick around long enough to see something you like!

The kind of things you can expect to see in the future are posts about MMA and other forms of pugilism, tattoos, and anything else we deem gentlemanly enough to be presented to you kind people. I will also be keeping a weekly log on my attempts to grow a moustache, which may or may not result in me looking like a total muppet.

It will take us a little while to get used to posting on here, so please be patient and don’t forget about us, we’ll be updating very regularly before you know it.

In the mean time, here’s a guy with a moustache. LOOK HOW HAPPY IT MAKES HIM!
